Being from Minnesota, I would whole heartedly agree that Garrison Keillor is a National...no, strike that, Internationa...no, wait, Universal Treasure. Someone suggested that he may be a snob. If I were Garrison Keillor I would not only be a snob, but an insufferable one. I'm going to have a Powder Milk Biscuit and call it a night.

17 Days: One Final Adventure
by Merry Magdalene ini once posted here a copy of my empassioned plea to the watchtower society--i want my mother back.
well, i just wanted to let all of you know that i got her back for a whole 17 days, and we had one final adventure together before she died, and there wasn't a damned thing they could do about it.. my mother is, was, a long-term loyal jw and i was her disfellowshipped daughter.
i believe she was in an almost constant state of conflict over me because her very strong maternal instincts demanded she behave openly and lovingly toward me, while her wts-trained conscience demanded the opposite.

I just received a phone call from a friend. She wanted to let me know that Scootergirl's husband committed suicide.
I know Scootergirl has many, many friends on this board. When I first introduced myself here, she immediately sent me a PM because I was from Minnesota. Turns out that we live within about a half hour of each other and we met in person. I also met her children and her husband. I had heard that there was trouble in their marriage but I thought they were working things out. I never would have dreamed it would come to this. My heart aches tonight.
Memorial service on Sunday for Jim at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Avenue, Duluth, MN 55807. Visitation from 1-2 pm. Service to follow.

And if you are only wanting to watch the paint dry, s/he better run!
What if the paint drying was a just finished portrait of you?
she likes taking rides on the back of my motorbike which is cool
Good for you, ballistic!

Is she interested in you or what you are doing? If she is interested in you, the date could be watching paint dry and she would think it was fun because she was with you. If she is more interested in the activity than she is in you, run.

What keeps you from killing yourself?
by AlmostAtheist inevery once in a while, the whole "futility of life" thing washes over me and something inside of me mentions the suicide option.
not that it's ever seriously considered, but one of the low-level accounting-types in my head quietly sends around a "worst-case scenario" memo that everyone reads, then dismisses.. after all, things always perk up.
"but," reminds the pessimistic little guy that should've been fired years ago, "they always go back down, too.

Thanks, though!

"Living as opposed to existing"
That, my friend, is a line right out of my favorite poem. It was written by Jack London. I use it as my personal mission statement.
"I'd rather be ashes than dust.
I would rather my spirit go out in a burning flame
than that it be stifled with dry rot.
I would rather be a splendid meteor, streaking across the sky,
every atom in my being a magnificent glow,
than to be a sleepy and permanent planet.
For life is to be lived and not to just exist,
and I will not waste my precious, precious days
simply trying to prolong them.
I will use every moment of my time,
and I will live every day to the fullest." -

I had a date with a woman who very calmly told me that the County had removed her children from her home due to neglect. She explained she wasn't worried about getting them back as she could always have more. That was the the most disturbing thing anyone has ever shared with me. And no, there wasn't a second date.
